On Saturday, 24th October 2026, from as early as 8:00 AM, residents from across Emuhaya Sub-County began streaming into the Deputy County Commissioner’s (DCC) grounds, where Kencras Foundation, in partnership with the Reuben Kigame Foundation and the Ministry of Health (MOH), Vihiga County, had organized a community medical camp.
The event marked the 8th successful medical camp organized by Kencras Foundation, demonstrating the Foundation’s continued commitment to improving community health and raising awareness about cancer prevention and early detection.
As with previous medical camps, the primary objective was to increase public awareness of cancer prevention, promote early detection through accessible screening services, and provide essential medical interventions aimed at improving the health and well-being of the community.
The initiative was guided by the theme:
“Cancer Prevention for a Healthy Community – While the Community Wins, Cancer Loses.”
Through this initiative, the Foundation sought to make cancer screening services more accessible to residents, with a focus on a wide range of cancers, including breast, cervical, ovarian, prostate, blood, gastrointestinal, brain, eye, and ear, nose and throat (ENT) cancers.
By bringing essential healthcare services closer to the community, the medical camp provided an important opportunity for residents to access screening, receive medical consultations, obtain health education, and learn more about the importance of taking proactive steps towards cancer prevention and early diagnosis.
The initiative further reinforced the importance of collaboration between healthcare professionals, community organizations, government institutions, and development partners in the collective fight against cancer.
